Kababayan@UofC

In Tagalog, 'Kababayan' (henceforth referred to as KBB) means 'fellow countrymen'. While the name bears many similarities with Samahan, the former Pinoy organization, in that they both imply unity, we would want to go further in our club goals and have the new name forge a greater sense of cultural identity. KBB is very distinct as it evokes a kind of nationalistic pride and a feeling of camaraderie that extends across ethnic boundaries -- anyone who joins the club essentially becomes our kababayan, and a good friend.

about The new leadership of the Filipino club here at the University of Chicago believes in the concept of common citizenry, especially looking at how the Philippines was colonized by a myriad of nations and how its language is comprised of a number of different dialects. Our organization does not extend just to the community at the University, but also to the world!
